Gerontology Studies Program honors graduates

Worcester, MA - Seven students from three institutions were honored at the annual graduation ceremony of the Consortium Gerontology Studies Program (CGSP) on May 7 at Assumption College.

Students in the program engage in the interdisciplinary study of aging and earn a Certificate in Gerontology along with their bachelor's degree.

The Sol Boskind Award was presented to students Mary Jane Rosati (Worcester State College), Kari Viola (College of the Holy Cross) and Kathryn Zahm (Assumption College). The award is given for demonstrated commitment to the elderly and the field of aging and is based on the student's commitment to older people and to making a difference in individual elder's lives. It is awarded to students who will in all likelihood pursue a career in the field of aging. Recipients must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The Rosalie S. Wolf Award was presented to students Theresa Chandler (College of the Holy Cross) and Nicole Jimino (Assumption College). This award is given for outstanding scholarly achievement and commitment to the study of aging and is based on the student's academic record. Recipients must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.

The awarding of individual certificates was conducted by CGSP faculty. The keynote speaker for the event was Susan Melia, professor of sociology at Assumption College.
