Maureen F. Curley, director of Campus CompactWorcester, MA – Maureen F. Curley, the newly appointed national director of Campus Compact, served as guest speaker at the Consortium’s Community Engagement Committee meeting on March 2 at Clark University’s Harrington House.

Campus Compact is a national coalition of nearly 1,100 college and university presidents — representing some five million students — dedicated to promoting community service, civic engagement, and service-learning in higher education.

Curley provided the committee with a brief explanation of the direction and initiatives currently being planned by the Compact. Some of these initiatives include the Carnegie Foundation Grant, raising the visibility of the Compact, and public policy strategies.

“As you know, for the past few years the Compact has increased activities around both defining and promoting the engaged compass,” said Curley. “We have not forgotten our roots in community service-learning, but we view these as important components of the overall mission of campuses that are actively involved with problem solving in the greater community.”

Community Engagement Committee members meet regularly to discuss issues of mutual interest, such as professional development for faculty and staff, student recruitment and training, and linkages with community agencies and organizations.
