College Community to Experience Shrewsbury Street
Release Date:
June 26, 2007
Worcester, MA - The Colleges of Worcester Consortium, Inc. and the Shrewsbury Street Area Merchants Association will host the first-ever Taste of Shrewsbury Street College Shuffle on Saturday, September 1, 2007 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
This new event is based on the widely successful Taste of Shrewsbury Street which is held each year in June. The College Shuffle will be held exclusively for Consortium students in addition to the local higher education community (including faculty, administrators, staff and families).
This event is part of a new initiative to generate intercollegiate social programming which will create a shared experience for all Consortium students. “We want to engage students as citizens of Worcester during their four years here and hopefully entice them to stay in the area after graduation,” said Karen Manson, director of student affairs at the Consortium. “We know Worcester is a city on the move and has a lot to offer, but too often our students stay on their respective campuses and are not exposed to the city on a firsthand basis.”
The schedule for the day includes the traditional Shrewsbury Street “taste” from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., after which various bands will be playing in Cristoforo Columbo (East) Park from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. During the shuffle, entertainment will be provided along the street by various student musical groups including an a cappella group from Assumption College, the Clark University Dance Society, and the Anna Maria Jazz Ensemble.
The cost is $10 per person. Buttons must be purchased in advance at your respective student activities office and will be available August 13-31. Transportation may be available from some schools. Check with your student activities office or human resources department for more information.
