Career Services Committee explores government careers

Worcester, MA - The Consortium Career Services Committee held a professional development day for government careers on Friday, November 20 at the College of the Holy Cross.

Approximately 75 career services professionals from both within and outside the Consortium took part in the one-day conference. The goal of the day was to provide career services personnel with an in-depth perspective of career options within the federal government.

Kim Ainsworth, executive director of the Greater Boston Federal Executive Board, presented "Trends in Federal Hiring" as the keynote address. Ainsworth also presented a morning session on "Security Clearances & Background Investigations."

The afternoon session featured a presentation on "Writing KSAs" (Knowledge, Skill, Ability) given by Maggie Becker, assistant director, Career Development Center, WPI and Alexandra Los, associate director recruiting, Career Planning Center, College of the Holy Cross. The day wrapped up with an employer panel.

Members of the panel were: Patrick J. Brown, Organizational Resources Staff, General Services Administration, New England; Greg Comcowich, Special Agent, FBI; and Kathleen Maguire, Corporate Recruiter/Appeals Officer, IRS.
