THE HOBBIT comic artist David Wenzel to appear at That’s Entertainment

Worcester MA on Saturday, May 5, 2012, from Noon to 5 p.m.

Acclaimed fantasy artist David T. Wenzel will appear at That’s Entertainment in Worcester on Free Comic Book Day 2012, Saturday May 5th Noon to 5 p.m. Wenzel is best known for his graphic novel adaptation of The Hobbit, which is one of the most successful artistic visualizations of classic literature ever done.

Wenzel will sign a free fantasy art print he has created especially for Free Comic Book Day attendees. This art event ties into mounting anticipation among fantasy fans for the premiere of the new The Hobbit movie, which will be released in December of this year.

“We’ve always had a huge turnout for Free Comic Book Day,” says Evan Scola, Marketing Manager for That’s Entertainment, “and of course we’ll have lots of interesting free comics to choose from. But on top of that, we’ll have David Wenzel here in the store, signing autographs and meeting his fans.”

“I know David plans to bring a variety of prints and paintings to display and sell,” says Company Manager Ken Carson, “so this will definitely be a colorful visual feast for fans of fantasy art. And it’s a great opportunity for aspiring artists to talk with a world-renowned professional.”

Scola has also lined up artist Bob Noberini for the event. Noberini is well-known for his dynamic superhero style, and he will be offering free sketches to attendees as time permits.

That’s Entertainment is a “pop culture emporium”, dealing mainly in comic books, toys, movies and video games. Located at 244 Park Avenue since 1992, they have operated in Worcester since 1980.

Free Comic Book Day is an annual promotional effort by the North American comic book industry to help bring new readers into independent comic book stores. Free Comic Book Day started in 2002 and is coordinated by the industry's single large distributor, Diamond Comic Distributors. On Free Comic Book Day, participating retailers give away specially printed copies of comic books. In its first six years, more than 2000 retailers in more than 30 countries have given away more than 12 million Free Comic Book Day special-edition comic books. That’s Entertainment has participated in FCBD every year since its inception, and has regularly featured professional artists as part of the event.
